Under the molasses tree...
Molasses Tree clothes capture the spirit of the child with playful colors, comfortable play wear and warm wishes.
A couple years ago as a novice sewer I made a pair of baby shoes for a little one-month-old friend. The tiny things took me a couple frustrating hours, but I was hooked! Out came more shoes, eventually appliqued onesies and a whole slew of baby wear. As I became more adept at sewing, I loved imagining dresses, skirts, and pants and the colorful fabrics that could be combined. I began selling at the Poulsbo Farmers Market in 2008 and now this being the coming of the third season, I am firm supporter of handmade and homegrown business!
So the name? The only place a molasses tree exists is in my imagination. (Molasses comes from sugar cane, though how delightful if molasses could drip from a tree and you could stand underneath and let it drip in your mouth!) I was just thinking one day about how molasses tastes good and needed a little more to the name and 'tree' fit! That's it!
